Promoting ebooks at École Leila North

Here are some of the things I’m doing to promote ebook usage at École Leila North:

Bulletin board

I made a bulletin board, or rather decorated a white wall, with quick instructions explaining the two ways students and staff can access our school division’s ebooks: via the Destiny Discover App and through the library’s catalogue. I also included some book covers to help pique the kids’ interest.

Labels

I copied some of the other library staff in my school division and affixed these “Also available as an ebook” labels to the titles we have in old-school format. Although I like this idea and jumped on the bandwagon, one concern I have is what do you do if you no longer have the ebook version anymore? Try to peel the label off, assuming you are even aware that you don’t have access? Just something I’ve been thinking…does anyone have any thoughts about this?

**Update: my colleague has eased my fears by informing me we own most of the ebooks in perpetuity.

I also added this poster, which is just slightly different from my bulletin board version, on the library doors and a few windows. Hopefully, students and staff will have a good chance of seeing this if it’s right in their face when they open the door!

Bookmarks

Last but not least, I made these bookmarks with some basic instructions, or rather, edited bookmarks that a colleague sent me.

Unpacking and reorganizing at SMP Middle Years library

I recently started working at Salisbury Morse Place School, in both the middle years and early years libraries (2 schools were combined and each kept its own library, from my understanding). Last year, the entire collection at the MY library was packed up so that some renovations and repairs could be done, which meant that this September was spent unpacking and setting back up the library’s collection. I was hired late September, which meant that I spent the first few days of my new job doing said unpacking and setting back up the library’s collection. Although it sounds kind of crappy, it was actually a really good way to see what books the library had, and also gave my teacher librarian and myself the chance to reorganize certain sections. From my understanding, the graphic novels were getting super crowded last year and it was getting hard for students to see them, so we made sure to dedicate more space to this growing and super popular section:

It’s really nice when a library has some space so that books can be displayed a bit. It makes it easier for students/patrons to see what’s there, and also helps to pique their interest!

What do you guys think? Do you like it when books are displayed so that you can see the front cover?

Summer!

I felt like I HAD to make a summer bulletin board for June, plus I wanted to have a countdown to Summer Break, so therefore I created….

Summer BB

this!

AND, my teacher-librarian and I thought everyone would find it funny if we put pics of our heads on the boat, so ergo:

Only 23 (I know, I have to change the number) days left until school is over!!
